Meetings & Activities

MEETINGS: YMS-KC meetings are usually held every other Saturday, at the Kansas City Public Library – Plaza Branch. Meetings begin at 3:00 PM promptly and are two hours long.

BREAK OUT SESSIONS (BOS): Break Out Sessions are our version of halaqas with a unique twist.  BOS’s are scheduled on alternate Saturdays, when a YMS-KC meeting is not scheduled. For our Break Out Sessions, we chose an activity of our choice, such as bowling. The two hour time period is spent doing the activity of choice, and about 30 minutes to discuss a Quran Reflection or Hadith. This way, we can improve the sisterhood bond between us, while also engaging in a gathering that is pleasing to Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him).

DAWAH: Every Saturday, in association with ICNA-Kansas City, dawah booths are set up around Kansas City. YMS-KC sisters promote dawah outreach and highly encourage sisters in the local area to learn more about how to do effective dawah. Recently, YMS-KC held a Dawah Symposium, featuring Dr. Sabeel Ahmed as a guest speaker. For more information on how to get involved, or to sign up for a booth, please click here. An administrator will get in touch with you shortly.

EVENTS: Occasionally, YMS-KC organizes events in the Greater Kansas City area. In the past we co-sponsored with MAS-Youth KC and hosted the Sisters’ Spiritual Retreat featuring Ustadha Yasmin Mogahed. We also assisted ICNA-Kansas City and ran the “Sister’s Session” of the Dawah Symposium. We also assisted with the Bayyinah event, featuring Shaykh Abdul Nasir Jangda. In the future, we hope to provide the sisters in the community with more spiritual and educational gatherings, in hopes to promote sisterhood bonding.
